I'm running for a OneCity council nomination
My name’s Russil Wvong, and I’m seeking a Vancouver city council nomination with OneCity.
I was born in Vancouver, studied at UBC, and I work as a software developer. I’m married, with two children who are now young adults. I spend a lot of time reading and writing about housing. Like a lot of parents, we worry about where our kids are going to live.
How do we make housing in Vancouver less scarce and expensive?
Vancouver has limited land, because of the ocean and the mountains. To grow, we need to build up. This doesn’t necessarily mean high-rises. We could go a long way by making it legal to build the way Montreal does, with single-lot apartment buildings. Each floor is one family-sized apartment. They’re much faster to plan and to build than high-rises, and construction cost per square foot is lower.
If you’d like to support my run for a city council nomination, please consider joining OneCity to vote in the nomination race. The cutoff to join is April 10, and the vote will be online, concluding May 10. https://www.onecityvancouver.ca/russil_wvong_membership_drive
